Quodlibet & California Nites

There were over 300 quilts hung at the Arizona Quilters Guild show.
My eye was particularly drawn to 2 quilts that used black as a contrast to showcase solid color.

Quodilbet pieced and quilted by Constance Clark

Constance wrote "I've always been fascinated by stained glass windows, especially those of Frank Lloyd Wright designs. This pattern gave me an opportunity to quilt my own."

I have now added a new word to my vocabulary.
Quodlibet.
What a great word.
I admit, I had never heard it used before.
In looking up the definition on Wikipedia, I love the images that come to mind:
A quodlibet is a piece of music combining several different melodies, usually popular tunes, in counterpoint and often a light-hearted, humorous manner. The term is Latin, meaning "whatever" or literally, "what pleases."

Birds In Flight by Sue Whaples
quilted by Diane Tricka
Sue wrote that her inspiration came from the pattern California Nites by Dereck Lockwood Enterprises:
This quilt is an unusual 8 way strip pieced design forming a star medallion which is surrounded by appliqued moth orchids and exotic birds representing the semi-tropical nights of Southern California.
Quilt Size: 97" x 97"

Beautiful quilts. The first is my favorite. The black is so striking.

Love the use of black. Really special quilts with completely different points of view.
