Vintage Dresden and Hexagon Quilts

Viewing The Art of Quilting Show at the Gilbert Museum is like a step back in time.

Vintage Dresden blocks decorate the tables, as if the maker will soon appear with needle in hand.
Notice how the colors and fabrics (polka dots and all) match current trends.

Rooms tastefully display vintage aprons and wares typically used at the beginning of the century here in Arizona.

Several ladies from my guild volunteer their time each week, hand quilting commissioned pieces in the Home Life room.
All proceeds are donated back to the Gilbert Museum.
The museum's web site shares:
"The art of hand-quilting lives on year round at the Gilbert Historical Museum; our live quilting bee is one of only a handful of quilting bees in the country to still operate all year"

Many of the quilts that are commissioned by the public are vintage tops needing completion.

I was especially taken with this Grandmother's Flower Garden that was on the frame.

Anyone can submit a quilt to be finished at the museum:
"People will often design and piece together the top of a quilt, but seldom will they find the time to complete it. Often these quilts lie forgotten for decades until found by a family member in a drawer or attic, often after the original creator has passed away. We receive quilt tops from all over the country, not just locally.
Our volunteer quilters will finish the quilt stitching, fasten the quilt top to inner batting and backing, perhaps add a border and sometimes even bring out the comforting poof quality! If you have an heirloom quilt that you just don’t have the time or skills to finish, let our volunteers finish it for you."

In the corner on the bed there was a Diamond Hexagon that looks as if it was recently completed.
