Tiled Blooms Quilt Block

 For the latest Bees Knees Quilting Bee block

I made

Tiled Blooms

for Sinta Borland (Pink Pincushion)

 Sinta made this so easy for us.

She mailed most of the sections Pre-cut.

All we had to do was 

cut the petals,

iron on fusible

sew applique

and then

assemble the block.

 This is what Tiled Blooms will look like once it's all put together.

Shari's Maple Block

 Shari Butler

of Doohikey Designs

for our Bees Knees Quilting Bee

Shari is having us make

a large 12" X 12" Modern Maples block

 Shari really made it easy for us.

She cut out each piece,

and mailed us the fabrics.

The block sewed up quick,

and is now ready to be mailed back to her :)

 I've had a very productive few days

in getting caught up making my

Bees Knees Blocks

For the month of September

Melissa Corry  (Happy Quilting)

asked us to make any kind of quilt block

with a Camping/ Outdoor Theme

She sent us the cutest fabrics

from the Smoors Love Collection

by Cosmo Cricket

 I opted to make

Gold Fish Crackers

12 1/2 " X 12 1/2" Unfinished

from a 

Free Tutorial offered by the

Emerald Coast Modern Quilt Guild

 I even added in a few of my own fabrics

for the backgrounds 

with one in blue

to give it that fishy water look :)

 I hope Melissa likes my choice

because these were so fun to make,

 she is not just getting one block...

 but a School of Fish !!

 I'd love to make a quilt out of these blocks myself.

I don't have any fisherman in my life

but I do love to look at Aquariums :)

The Emerald Coast Guild even gives

a possible layout suggestion.

Bees Knees 9-Patch Blocks

 Once upon a time

there was a lovely lady named

Shari Butler of Doohikey Designs

who sent each of her fellow 

Bees Knees members

a packet of fabric.

That would have been 

last June of 2014

Unfortunately my package was sent to an old address

and never heard from again.

Lots of e-mails back and forth

and we still had no idea where the package ended up.

Now, there is a happy ending to this sad story:

Just this week I 

finally

yes

finally  (!)

located the long lost package  !!

Inside were some 

wonderful Riley Blake Halloween fabrics

with the instructions to make

a simple 9-Patch

 Mission accomplished

 before All Hallows Eve

 Shari also requested that we make a second 

9 1/2 inch unfinished

Half Square Triangle Star Block

 Mission accomplished

 Little snag: 

there was not enough fabric to finish one corner of the block.

Shari said not to worry,

just send as is, and she will finish the rest.

I am happy to report that

these blocks are now on their way to Shari's house

in Layton, Utah

and our Long Lost Saga

has now come to an end :)

A New Year with Bees Knees A Quilting Bee

 I am part of an on-line Quilting Bee

called the

Bees Knees

Such a wonderful group.

We are just beginning our 3rd year together.

We have 12 in our Bee

from all over the United States.

A few have had to leave 

because of  time commitments

and 

others have been invited in recently.

Many are top designers in the Industry

and I am always in awe of their creativity.

Each month one person leads our Bee

by sending each of us a package of fabric 

along with a block pattern.

We make the block (s) and then mail them back.

I have learned many new techniques 

through this process!

 Usually all goes well.

Every once in a while a package gets lost in the mail.

 Last June Shari sent me these cute Halloween fabrics.

Unfortunately they went to an old address where the package sat for months unnoticed.

Today I finally tracked it down!

YAY!

Usually the designer sends matching fabrics to all in the group

and they can be hard to replace.

Now I can make these suggested blocks

for Shari!

And to kick off September

Melissa Corry (Happy Quilting)

sent us pieces of

Smoors Love Collection

by Cosmo Cricket.

We have been asked to use our imaginations

and make a 

Camping/ Outdoors themed quilt block

anywhere from 12" X  12"  up to 18" X 21"

I'm looking for a free block pattern

X & + Quilt Block

 Fellow Bees Knees member

April Rosenthal

sent out fabrics a few months ago to make her a

X & + quilt block.

But, the label on my envelope came off

and the package was returned back to April.

She recently resent, and

I received my package in the mail this weekend.

I hurried and put her block together.

 I have been wanting to make this block for

several years now

and being a Bees Knees member

gave me the opportunity to finally give it a try.

So easy and fun to make.  

A great way to use up scraps

and the block works up fast.

 Calli sent us the fabric and asked each of us in the group

to make 2 blocks

and to hand applique the center circle.

We used fellow Bee's Knees member,

 We had enough fabric to make two extra 

Half Square Triangles

that will also be mailed back to Calli

A Bees Knees Block for Amy Smart

 Amy Smart (Diary of A Quilter)

was the Bees Knees member to send out

fabric for the month of March.

 We were asked to create a 

12 1/2 inch block

comprised of smaller

 Log Cabin combinations.

The is the layout I selected.

Amy's only request was that we include

Kona white in the blocks.

 Last year 

when it was Amy's turn 

she had each of us make one large 12 1/2 inch block.

These smaller ones will be included in the same quilt.

To give us some ideas what kind of blocks 

to create, Amy showed us a picture

of this quilt used as her inspiration.

A great way to use up scraps!

February Bees Knees Quilt Block

 I belong to a wonderful On-Line Quilting Bee 

called 

The Bees Knees

February is my month (yay!) to have the group 

make a block for me.

I've been busy cutting out 

 scraps into

lots of triangles and squares 

for each bee member.

 I am having them make my

Flying Geese Block 

12" X 12" (finished)

 I hope they have as much fun with them as I do.

 Packages are now in the mail :)

This month for our Bees Knees group

Carrie Nelson asked each of us make

2 blocks from Camille's video.

I was given the layout for

Block #5

 and Block #6

 It's so nice to have Carrie

of Miss Rosie's Quilt Company

as part of our group

Carrie is also a fellow Arizonian

 Carrie's package included 

the sample layout

and a charm pack containing 

5" X 5" squares of Moda Bella white

and  Flea Market Fancy

 

Carrie's blocks will be sent off in the mail today.

Now I'd like to make all 25 in the layout :)
