In preparation of celebrating 100 years of statehood, the Arizona Quilters Hall of Fame has formed a committee to represent the contributions of Arizona quilt makers.
Planned by a team of quilters, historians and artisans, this group has donated thousands of hours in creating an Arizona Centennial Commemorative Quilt.
Working with Jason Yenter and In The Beginning Fabrics, they have produced a beautiful commemorative 11-piece fabric line called Southwest Beauties.

While I was visiting with the Delightful Quilters guild in Scottsdale, I met Wanda Seale, the ACQP Co-Chair.
While I was visiting with the Delightful Quilters guild in Scottsdale, I met Wanda Seale, the ACQP Co-Chair.
Wanda was so welcoming and invited me to lunch along with 2 other members of the guild.
During lunch I asked her many questions about the creation of the fabric line and the Centennial Quilt Project.
Wanda started working on this project over 2 years ago, and took her drawings and ideas to Mr. Yenter.
The Centennial Quilt will be presented to the State for permanent exhibit.

100 Years 100 Quilts.
The first 100 quilts that meet the criteria will be selected to travel the state as part of an exhibit.
Each quilt will be accompanied by a "legacy statement" in the quilter's own words about the reasons behind the creation of the quilt.

I was so impressed with the work by Wanda and others towards this project.

From the AQCP web site:
"This is an historic exhibit as no other state has organized an event such as this to commemorate their centennial.
This is the last centennial celebration of the continental 48 states.
The next ones won’t be until Alaska and Hawaii celebrate in 2058 and 2059. "

I have a soft spot for the desert. What a wonderful project and the fabric designed by Jason Yenter is really stunning.
What a tribute to statehood and what an opportunity for those involved.
