Sunflowers Quilt

One of the things I love about attending the Nimble Thimbles quilt group is the exposure I am receiving and the things I am learning about vintage quilts.
Thanks to our wonderful program coordinator Lynn Miller (Quilts -Vintage and Antique).
When quilt appraiser Kathy Houser presented her lecture, she brought several quilts from her own collection.
Top of the list of my favorite in the group was
Sunflowers
one that Kathy purchased on e-Bay.
Sunflowers is a Marie Webster (1859-1956) design.
Marie was the author of the first published American book about quilting
She designed many quilts, all applique and mostly floral's.
I love the large flowers and bright green leaves.
This is one I would love to make someday.
has been republished many times and can still be found on Amazon.com
Marie Webster was quite the entrepreneur, especially for a woman of her day.
She was a quilt designer, author, and business woman.
Her residence in Marion, Indiana The Marie Webster House is now home to the Quilters Hall of Fame.
It's interesting to note she did not begin quilting until she was in her 50's.

The sunflowers are beautiful! It almost looks as though they are printed in the fabric and not appliqued.
