Two of the quilts that caught my attention at the Arizona Quilters Guild show featured roses.
Both were impressive as the makers used a wide variety of techniques in the construction.
Scraps and Roses
by Bev Lawrence
Bev wrote When I saw this quilt, my brain said "This is why I've been saving all those small scraps!"
This quilt was machine pieced using traditional/ paper-pieced/ and curves.
Hand appliqued
and machine quilted
all by Bev.
I attended this show with a friend, and she commented that she felt there should be a separate category in judging for the quilter who not only creates the quilt top, but also does their own quilting.
After all, this takes 2 very different types of skill.

Didn't Bev do a great job with color?
Vintage Roses
by Barbara Polston
Quilted by Terri Doyle
Vintage linen inspired this original design by Barbara, showcasing painted applique roses.
The tatting really pops against the black background.
Such an original border, combining scalloped edging and embroidery.
A gloved volunteer turned an edge of the quilt over so we could see the striking black and white rose fabric used for the backing.
Another award winner.
Vintage Roses won First Place for Mixed-Large

Wow!! Both of those quilts are beauties! Not sure which I like more, although they both fall into very different categories. I agree, that type of category would be fantastic... ;) Scrappy is fabulous, so when will we see your version of the first quilt?

Applique takes my breath away. Stunningly beautiful.
