With my posts about Circus Quilt, I have received several e-mails from readers with additional leads.
My thanks to Karen K. who shared links to this Elephant block pattern.
The pattern was so easy that I sat down and made one with a few scraps.
In keeping with the exotic style so prevalent in the 1920's and 1930's, I made my elephant out of some wild fabric.
Not sure what I am going to do with the block yet, but I had so much fun making him (or her?) that I am going to make some more.
The original block is designed by Miri of Milk and Honey Quilts, who offers a free pattern.
Eileen of Eileen's Attic made her own version, adding embroidery.
Elephants must be having a resurgence in popularity.
I love the appliqued quilt blocks Lurline (Lurline's Place) is making right now.
Valorie Well's fabric line Karavan Marrakech is another delightful example of keeping with the exotic.

Have you ever wondered why Elephants have such an excellent Memory?
From Softpedia:
In a top of intelligence, humans are followed by apes, elephants and dolphins. The elephant brain is denser than the human's, and the temporal lobes, associated to memory, are more developed than in humans. Elephant's lobes also have more foldings, so that they can store more information. That's why elephants have excellent memory.

what neat elephants - I guess I never thought to make animals. Versatile, using either applique for a curved trunk or pieced.

I *love* the Karavan fabric and have been drooling over it ever since I first saw it. Just way too much going on to buy fabric for yet another "gonna use this for something" box, though. :(
Oh my goodness I love your elephant! The applique ones from Laurline are cute also.
Love your elephant! Thanks for the link to the pattern. ;)
That is way dang awesome! The retro flower fabric is wonderful for that design!
Who knew there were so many cute elephants out there!
I love your fabric choice Nedra, looks like he/she belongs in the jungle.
Love your elephant block. Stunning. I ran off a pattern and I will have to give this a try.

Your elephant block turned out so cute. Elephants seem to be popular right now. I just bought a design roll of Karavan. I also just bought an adorable Valentine placemat (with elephants) at Target for my GD. If you love elephants check out the free patterns right now at StudioE fabrics & Newcastle fabrics. They are adorable! Have a great weekend!
Yay! So nice to enjoy these wonderful giants!
Hugs - Lurline♥
My daughter Natalie will want to make the elephants. I know she has talked alot about making an elephant quilt. Thanks!
I finished my elephant quilt top using this pattern. Thank you for pointing the way to this wonderful block. I know I will make more.
