This last year I was delighted to reconnected with a friend whom I had not seen in almost 35 years.
He's now on the minuscule list of non-quilting men who are kind enough to read Cactus Needle.
(I'm guessing his lovely wife, who is an award winning quilter, probably eased him into the culture.)
On several posts I have written of how much I enjoy a good British film.
During dinner one night, my friend asked if we had seen the TV show Doc Martin, produced in England.
Neither Mr. Cactus or myself were familiar with the series.
When my friend, who also happens to be a doctor, spoke of the humor and social ineptness of Doc Martin, I knew we needed to check it out.
Now, after watching the first 4 seasons and howling with laughter, we are big Doc Martin fans.
Mr. Cactus seems most taken, and has even begun quoting him at the dinner table.
Doctor Martin Ellingham is a brilliant surgeon who develops a debilitating fear of blood. To cope, he moves back to his childhood home (set in the stunningly beautiful sea village of Port Isaac) to serve as the town doctor.
He's cranky, emotionally detached, compulsively analytical at all the wrong moments, and yet you just have to love the guy.
We found ourselves wanting to protect the vulnerable Doc by shouting warnings at the TV.
"Don't say it Doc! Just kiss Louisa without a diagnosis!"
Season 1-4 can be ordered through Amazon. com
Season 5 is scheduled to be aired starting in September.
Thanks Doc Dalton for a great recommendation.

We love him too. Netflix carries the first four seasons and we just had such a wonderful time watching them all in a row over the course of several days only. We watched a lot of them every day. Mostly we had to go to bed was what stopped us, says my husband. I am really glad that you like him, too. We’ll be able to chat about it when it starts next month. What network/station carries it, do you k now? Is it a PBS property?
Spouse, Ormond, says, "the best part is shouting at the TV. It’s like a sports game.”
Mind you we rarely watch sports unless it’s swimming or gymnastics !~!
Great guy! Funny and somehow has sex appeal, too, lol!

I love him too. He has no bad side manner and afraid of blood for a doctor! Louisa is the best thing for him, but he too blinded to see at the moment. My favourite have to be his receptionist Pauline. Hilarious girl! Hugs Nat
Isn't he fabulous? And what about Mrs Tishell? The countryside is gorgeous too. xo
The Doc sounds like fun and a series we would enjoy.
I immediately think of the "House" series here. We don't get to see it when on the air because we are generally not in one place long enough, but watching the videos is great.
I'm gonna have to check this out. Loved Lark Rise to Candleford..

Such a great show!
It's new to me!! I thought you were going to talk about Doc Martin SHOES!! They were THE shoes back in the mid-90's - and cost about $100! My girls STILL have them - not even close to wearing out! lol Guess I'll have to find the new Doc Martin!!
My hubby loves this program. It's very funny.
I love Doc Martin too but when our new GP in town was so like him I cracked up. Same lack of emotion, lack of sense of humour and super serious about everything.
