One of my favorite places to shop for quilt books is JoAnn's. I love to use my 40% off coupon, and then I feel like I've truly landed upon a "find". I don't even have to make the projects from a quilt book. For relaxation I gather a stack around me, turn the pages one by one and dream away. My own little state of Nirvana. (definition: "An ideal condition of rest, harmony, stability, or joy.")
I picked this one up the other day. "Sew Darn Cute" is written by Jenny Ryan and has all kinds of fun projects.
Now don't laugh, but I love this snake. In real life I'm not a big snake lover, but the ones made out of fabric are endearing. The pattern says to use old felted sweaters, but I see that many different kinds of fabrics would be wonderful too. I'm looking for new ways to use Texture Magic and I think this would be a perfect project by giving a few of his sections some "texture".
I think these Square Bears tummy's need some Texture Magic also. Don't you think my grandsons need one of these?
The skinny scarf is perfect for those warm weather states. Another fun way to use scraps and a little Texture Magic here or there.
I've been looking for ways to add Texture Magic to existing clothing. I don't wear tank tops, but a regular tee would be perfect to add these on the neckline.
The book has a lot more great projects. Make sure to check it out.
Another book that everyone has been reading lately, and I too recommend is The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. The title sounds a little fluffy so I wasn't sure I was interested at first. Don't worry, the setting is 1946 as England is emerging from World War II. Written in corresponding letters, the author takes us through individual experiences of surviving the war.
Why did I love the book? Because it was well written and positive. The people had difficult experiences, yet they banded together as a group and became strong through opposition. I found the story uplifting and full of hope.
And I especially appreciated how the author wove a story line of how various books changed peoples lives.
I'm one of those too.
