I've loved this quilt from the moment I saw it
and have finally had the time to make one

 The rows are created
Horizontally
with a simple sew and fold technique.

"Ash" Gray Kona for the background
and
Kaffe Fassett scraps for the Geese
Love those Kaffes!
And a matching Kaffe for the binding.
I even placed a sleeve on the back.
 Labeled and done.

Day Trip Quilt Finished

I fell in love with
Day Trip
the first time I saw it!
Pattern design by

I finally had the time to make my own version.
Love, love, love this pattern!
I used Kona "Ash" (gray) for the background
and scraps of Kaffe Fassett fabrics for the Geese

For my back I used a bright and happy Phillip Jacobs print
that matched the flowers currently blooming in my backyard.

"This quilt is truly a labor of love for me to create.
I am a passionate collector of floral fabrics.
I love the way many floral fabrics blend together
and the way they create lost and found edges
around shapes of blocks.
I designed the layout in EQ using a gray scale
to show values.
Once I chose the large floral focus fabrics,
I pulled over 100 different fabrics from
my stash for the quilt.
I pieced each block one at a time,
coordinating the fabrics for that specific block as I went.
This was the first King sized quilt that I machine quilted.
The machine quilting took 80 hours to complete.
