Those Mesa Ladies/ October

Yesterday was that favorite day of the month
where I had the opportunity to spend the day with
those wonderful Mesa Ladies
We quilt together at the church, visit,
eat wonderful food, and have the best time.
Janet is getting ready for Halloween
with a work in progress
fusible applique
Bench Pillow
I believe the pattern is by KimberBell
 Lori found this baby quilt
she had started 8 years ago
for her grand daughter :)
Time to finish now!
Only the binding needs to be done.
And a new baptism quilt for the same grand daughter

Peg brought her
Getting Around To It
that she designed
 Raw edge circles
 Soft Minkee back
Look at the wonderful quilting!
Julie was working on a pink Chevron quilt for a grand daughter
Each month two of the ladies in the group
serve as hosts
This month Julie and Christine provided the most fun Halloween themed day.
As we walked in, one of the tables was decorated with snacks
and door prizes
 How cute is this?
Julie decorated her trifle bowl
Inside was a snack of roasted peanuts and candy corn.
When eaten together, they taste a lot like a Payday candy bar.
And for lunch Julie and Christine treated us to
the most delicious
Halloween Bag Lunches
 Quilty labels
Chicken Salad Croissants
Veggies and Dip
Fruit Cups
Chips
Homemade cookies
and of course
eyeballs and spider rings
Can you see why I feel so spoiled?
Thank you ladies  !!!

Candy Corn Snack Mix

Tomorrow is a big day for us :)
Our oldest daughter is to be married !!
We have many family members and friends
pouring in from Out of State for the happy event.
My happy happy
is that all 5 of my children will be together.
And of course, I am most happy for
Aubrey and Kevin
who are a perfect match.
I have plenty of food on hand to feed the crowds,
and made this Halloween Snack Mix
that can just sit out in the kitchen for whoever wants a little treat.
I've even left a spoon in the bowl
to make it easier to grab a bite or two.
 Kind of addictive
Candy corn, cereal, and nuts all mixed together with a sweet coating.
The original recipe called for coconut
but I opted to omit because I have family members who are allergic.
Instead I threw in a few cups of Cheerios
and it turned out fine.
 As you can see
half the bowl is gone already.
I think we have a new Halloween favorite.
From start to finish, it took less than a 1/2 hour to assemble.
The original recipe is from
Yummy Healthy Easy
and can be found

Cathy's Quilts

One of the things I love about attending the
Sit and Sew
at 3 Dudes Quilting each Tuesday
is the opportunity to learn from other quilters.
We each come with our own parcel of knowledge
and I have discovered that quilters
by their very nature
are very willing to share what they have gleaned from experience.
Yesterday, Cathy Hawthorn taught me a great technique for adding
a quilt sleeve to the back of a quilt.
Thanks Cathy!
A little Show and Tell from Cathy Hawthorn
who brought two of her quilts that she is in the process of binding.
 Fun Halloween fabrics.
Yes, Halloween will be here before we know it :)
A free motioned spider adds to the theme.
 Square In A Square blocks
An art quilt that Cathy is also in the process of binding.
Cathy does her own machine quilting
and sells many of her pieces.

Trunk or Treat

While our daughter and Son-In-Law have been vacationing in Hawaii, we have been busy, busy, busy, having fun taking care of the grandbabies for the last 9 days.
From car pooling, to soccer games to dance lessons, I had forgotten how much energy is needed to keep a 2 year old, a 4 year old and 7 year old occupied and happy :)

Our church hosts a fun family activity each year on the Saturday night before Halloween called
Trunk or Treat
Tonight we helped a Ninja, Princess and GI Joe get a head start on gathering buckets of candy before the official holiday arrives.

At around 6:00, while it was still light outside, families gathered in the church parking lot and began adorning the trunks of their cars with Halloween decorations.
Dinner was then served while the sun began to set in the warm Arizona sky.
Here in the desert, the weather is just now dropping below 100 degrees, and the children will run freely in sandals and shorts for most of the winter.
We decorated our daughter's trunk with a Halloween quilt that I made for her a few years ago.
We then set our chairs out and waited for the trick or treaters to come by for candy.
I don't know who has more fun, the children, the parents or the grandparents.
It's always so interesting to see what unique and original costumes the children will select each year.
And then there are the parents of those children.....

October Show and Tell/ Part 1

The Nimble Thimbles have been busy.
Below is part 1 of our October Show and Tell
I always love Show and Tell.
It gives me new ideas for projects that can be added to my ongoing "to do" list
Halloween will be here before we know it!
Ruth is ready with a door hanger.
Sharon has been playing with her scraps and snippets
Suzie's Big Star showcases Christmas fabrics
Gudrun has been stitching snowmen for a tabler runner to be given to her daughter
Red and White scraps have been put together for a Charity Quilt
 I see a theme here.
Barbara also has been working with her scraps and improved her quilting skills by trying out a new ruler.
I will share a few more from Show and Tell tomorrow!
