Basket of Marigold's Quilt Class

 Today I taught
Basket Of Marigolds
 Fun pattern by  my friend
Jodi Nelson (Pleasant Home)
3 Dudes even kitted the pattern
with the same fabrics that I used to make the quilt.
Class members also had the option of buying the pattern separately
and selecting their own fab
The ladies did a great job learning to make
Half Square Tria
 I noticed that
Molly even dressed to match the quilt!
Basket of Marigolds pattern
can be purchased

Nosegay Quilt Made with Kaffes

About a month ago I wrote of
seeing this fabulous Nosegay Quilt
made by Deborah Engle.
It has been calling and calling to me.
The block is a traditional one from the 1800's
and I completely fell in love when I saw it
Modernized with Kaffe Fassett fabrics
Kaffe Fasset is the only fabrics I collect
and I have plenty of scraps in my stash to make this quilt.
I did some research and this block is traditionally constructed
by making your own templates.
There are a lot of "Y" seams, too.
Doesn't sound a bit fun, and I was hoping to find an easier way.
 Success!
As I did further research
I found
designed by Joanna Figueroa
of Fig Tree Quilts in 2007
I ordered the pattern from her web site right away :)
Joanna doesn't like templates and Y seams either
and drafted the above Nosegay block
 mainly using squares and triangles.
Yay!
More of the story on her blog
For the setting
I want to put the blocks on point
just like Deborah's.
I can hardly wait to get started!

A Basket of Marigold's Quilt Finish

 I've finished making my
A Basket of Marigold's
50" X 50"
quilt.
This really was a fun (and easy!) one to work on.
Pattern by Jodi Nelson
of
I will be teaching this as a class at
on Saturday June 28th
9:30-3:30
The new class schedule is just getting ready to
be posted, so there is still  plenty
of room for sign ups :)
If you would like to make this quilt
in the very exact same fabrics
3 Dudes is putting them into kits.
This quilt just says Spring!
If you would like to see
Basket of Marigolds
up close
I will be delivering it
to 3 Dudes next week
to be hung in their store as a
class sample.

Carrie Nelson's Bees Knees Blocks

Have you seen the fun You Tube Video
by Camille Roskelley for Craftsy?
This month for our Bees Knees group
Carrie Nelson asked each of us make
2 blocks from Camille's video.
I was given the layout for
Block #5
 and Block #6
It's so nice to have Carrie
as part of our group
Carrie is also a fellow Arizonian
 Carrie's package included
the sample layout
and a charm pack containing
5" X 5" squares of Moda Bella white
and  Flea Market Fancy

Carrie's blocks will be sent off in the mail today.
Now I'd like to make all 25 in the layout :)

Rahna Summerlin Quilts

Last August I took a picture
at the IQF Long Beach Quilt Show
of  Rahna Summerlin's
Blooming In Chintz
see post on 8/12/13
I love her style and designs!
While in Houston
Rahna and her husband approached me
and thanked me for featuring one of her quilts
on my blog.
During our conversation I learned Rahna has two quilts
here at International Quilt Festival!
Of course, I had to run right down
as soon as I could
and check them out.
A very talented lady!
 Fish Scraps
 Rahna wrote:
"There are ten variations of fish on this quilt
all foundation pieced, all original.
I was inspired by two large boxes
of fabric samples given to me by an acquaintance
in the surf wear industry.
Almost all of the fabric on the front and back
are from these ready-to-wear
fabric samples and remnants.
Approximately 220 hours went into the making
of this quilt"
 Great use of scraps.
There were a lot of people
standing nearby
oohing and aaahing over Fish Scraps.
 Last Summer's Leftovers
 Rahna wrote:
"I fell in love with an antique Railroad Crossing
quilt I saw in Sharon Newman's book
Treasures From Yesterday, Book 2
I made this quilt with lots of leftover triangles
from a prior quilt I had made the year before.
I am constantly inspired by antique quilts and am
infatuated with scrap quilts from the early
to mid 1900's.

Simply Santa Fe Quilt

Living in the
Southwest region of the United States
I'm often drawn to quilts
that represent our culture.
 Simply Santa Fe
by Cindy Seitz-Krug of Bakersfield, California
shown at IQF Long Beach
is a stunning representation
of of the rich colors and designs
of our area.
 All within this one quilt,
Cindy used many of the techniques available to quilters:
Machine pieced, hand appliqued,
trapuntoed by machine,
and
machine quilted.
 Design Source:
Lone Star, LeMoyne Stars,
Sawtooth Borders, Ribbon Borders.
She wrote:
"This quilt was made entirely from Cherrywood
Hand-Dyed fabrics.
I love to use them because of their rich beauty and
the fact that my quilting shows up
so well on them.
This pattern is my original design,
as are my quilting motifs.
However, I learned many of the background
quilting techniques from
Diane Gaudynski and Sharon Schamber."
 I loved her scrappy
and yet simple
Half Square Triangles
that trim the border
and allow the eye to travel inward
for the main focus.
Cindy even stenciled motifs on the back!
wow

The Berne House Quilt

 Another stunner
from the IQF Long Beach Show
was the
Berne House Quilt
made by members of the Bernese Quilters
of Berne Switzerland.
One hundred fifty six different blocks
were made separately
and then sewn together.
 One member replicated the famous
a well known land mark in the
city of Berne.
very impressive!
 European homes
have their own
unique form of architecture
and I really enjoyed seeing the
variety in this quilt.
The Berne Quilt was made in 2010 for a big
Exhibition in Switzerland.
Their work, timeless.
