Kite Surfing Near Half Moon Bay

I'll be gone for a week.
Heading home to the Bay Area where I was raised.

Home to be with family and to see the ocean.

Home to watch the kite surfing near Half Moon Bay and all the other fun things to do in Northern California.

We are so ready to escape the hot temperatures of Arizona, and to feel mists of sea salt air.

We will hike through a redwood forest and go sailing under the Golden Gate Bridge.

And yes, we plan to dig our toes in the sand, and read books and relax.

Great Granny Quilt Finish

"Ta Dum"!
A finish on my Great Granny quilt!

58" X 71"
I made mine a little bigger with 20 blocks, a nice throw size.

Lori's (Bee In My Bonnet) original was 9 blocks, but I was having so much fun I just kept going.

Seriously, these were so addicting to make.

I especially liked using my scraps.
A perfect quilt to use up what you have.

Of course I needed to use a little bit of Lori's Sew Cherry Fabric (for Riley Blake)

Thank you again Lori and Jodi for such a fun Quilt Along.
I've loved sewing with you the last few weeks.
It almost made me feel like the good old days when we were in the same room, ooohing and aaahing over each others blocks.
Lets do this again!

The Beginnings of Spin Cycle

The first few blocks of Spin Cycle are starting to trickle in.
Such happiness to go to the mailbox and find these treasures being sent back to me from the Bee's Knees ladies:)

Don't they look wonderful already?
I really love this pattern!
3 have arrived with 8 more on the way.

I asked the ladies to sign their names so I will have a remembrance of our BEE together.

Crayon Challenge Quilts

The Nimble Thimbles have come up with a great idea for a Guild Challenge.
(And you know how I love to share great ideas with you :)

This just might be the thing you want to do in your guild, too!
Each member was asked:
"Make a project with the main color being the color of the crayon being drawn blindly from the bag"

There really are no rules, other than the project needs to be made with fabrics matching the crayon color we each randomly selected from a bag held over our heads.
*and we were asked not to trade crayon colors with anyone else.
We can make a quilt of any size, and it doesn't even have to be a quilt.
We can make a purse, a wall hanging, or even something small like place mats.
Our instructions were "Let your imaginations take over!"
There was quite a buzz going around the room when we each found out the color we would be working with.

I was so relieved that I selected "Tropical Turquoise" !
A color I love.
We were asked to color a tag with our crayon, and attach the tag to our final project.
We have until December for a finish, and our projects will be the backdrop for our holiday Christmas Party.
This sounds fun.

Great Granny Fever

Have you caught the Great Granny Fever?
Almost at epidemic level.

We met with Steph's Group the other day.
Peg brought one block from her Great Granny, made especially for a new grandson.
She will be making hers a crib size, and I can hardly wait to see how the quilt will turn out with the darling blue gingham as the background fabric.
Did you know that Great Granny Fever is an
AIRBORNE illness?

Peg caught it just by viewing Steph's blog.

After being AWOL for the last two meetings, we were so happy to have Steph back with us.
How can we be Steph's Group without Steph?
(I think she missed us as much as we missed her)
Just who gave her permission to go on a family vacation to spend time with her children and beautiful grandchildren anyway?

Steph has Great Granny Fever too.
She worked on several blocks while we were together.

Like myself, Gina is a newbie to the group and recently moved to Arizona from out of state.
You may be familiar with her pattern line Threaded Pear.
Gina recently sold her quilt store Cranberry Quiltworks in Placentia, California, and with her family relocated to Gilbert.
She is such a great addition to the group, and I'm really enjoying getting to know her better.

In just a few hours Gina whipped up one of her original patterns called "Charming Baby Log Cabin".

Eventually the bottom of the quilt will be scalloped.
Gina is putting together kits and has patterns available on her web site HERE.

And Steph gave me these darling *Quilt Blocks charm squares.
