Who Do You Think You Are?

"To know who you are, you have to know where you came from." (Lionel Richie)
This last year has been a wonderful year for a number of reasons.
One of my most enjoyable experiences has been working on my Family History, and the discoveries I found.
I am grateful for a sweet angel named Sue, who has helped me so much.
For those of you who involved in genealogy, you know how addictive the quest becomes. I'm beginning to understand why some of my closest friends have just about put their quilting away, and now focus most of their time searching their roots.
Passion, adventure, joy, exhilaration, euphoria, elation, fervor, intoxication, devotion:
Family History has it all.
My most favorite show on T.V. right now is
Who Do You Think You Are? sponsored by Ancestry.com
And I've just discovered that the show can be watched on line for free anytime.

The most recent episode with Lionel Richie was very moving.
I wept as he learned of the the great sacrifices his family had made. "We are here because of their struggles." he said.
So true for each one of us.
Sunday is a great day to spend time learning more about your Family History.

Pat's Halloween Baltimore

Pat Peters, fellow Diva and Queen of Applique has been working on a Halloween Baltimore.
I wanted to show you the latest blocks she has finished.
Remember these still need to be pressed, but you can appreciate Pat's amazing work.
Wow!
It's an honor just to sit next to Pat.

Diva March Show and Tell

The Divas have been busy working away on quilts.
Bev was the first to bring out Show and Tell.

Pattern: Stepping Stones, using the Seminole piecing technique.

Bev also does her own quilting. Beautiful.

Melissa said she has been working off and on this quilt for years and was happy to have a finish.

Pattern: Whirligig

Melissa also wanted me to let you know that her friend Gary Christensen quilted her quilt.
If anyone is looking for a longarmer in the Boise area, make sure to give Gary a call.

Margaret adapted the pattern Perfect 10, to be more like Perfect 12.

I love the fabric line she used: Fun Flowers by Lakehouse.
Margaret also does her own quilting.

For 2011 the Diva's have set a goal that each one will make a pineapple quilt.
It can be from any pattern. The only stipulation is that it needs to be larger than a potholder.
Margaret showed what she has completed so far.

Pinwheels and pineapples. Great combination, and color choices.
Margaret was proud to announce that every piece of fabric came from her stash.

Pat Peters Pineapple quilt is stunning.

I love how the dark background really makes the pineapple pop out.
Pat always does such meticulous work. In fact, tomorrow I will show you parts of the Halloween Baltimore she has been appliqueing.

Divaishly Green

Last night was our Diva March gathering at Margaret's home.
In celebration we had a St. Patrick's Day party.
We each brought a GREEN present to share as part of the fun games Margaret had planned.
The school teacher in Margaret really comes out. We were asked true and false questions, testing our knowledge about St. Patrick's Day.

No fair. Ricci, who has been to Ireland won the prize.
Guess who got the least amount of correct answers?
I can only say that it was a person who would really like to go to Ireland someday.
(me)
I can tell it's time to start studying Irish history.

I really should control the whining.
Look at this beautiful glass necklace I won in another game.

Margaret made delicious treats.

In making the key lime bars, Margaret figured a few extra drops of green food coloring would brighten the dessert up a bit.
We called these Divaishly Green, or even Nuclear Green.
Be warned: One bite turned people's lips and tongues a ghastly color.
Of course, we had to tease Margaret about her cooking experiment.

The house was decorated for St. Patrick's Day, including this table runner...

...a gift made by fellow Diva Pat Peters.
Thank you Margaret for always making our Diva gatherings extra fun.
Tomorrow I will show you the latest quilts the Diva's have been working on.

4 Wonderful Years

For the last 4 years we've had a wonderful experience attending many of the Southern Utah University basketball games, watching Caitlyn Sears play.
Caitlyn is the daughter of our good friends Brad and Judi, who often stay in our home when SUU has home games.

Last night, Caitlyn played the last game of her college career.
An amazing young woman, and we've been delighted to watch her skill and confidence increase with each season.
Cait was team captain, and the 5th all time high scorer for SUU.
In the last few months she became the 9th person to reach the 1,000 Point Club in SUU's history.

Cait also earned Academic All-summit League Honors.
Congratulations Caitlyn!

The Sears family.
Cait is from Cedar Hills, Utah, a 3 hour drive away, and her family has attended almost every home game.

Sister Jena is a big #32 fan.

A tearful moment waving goodbye to the crowds at the end of the game.

The 3 graduating seniors received awards and quite a bit of attention last night.

Caitlyn with proud parents Brad and Judi.
Now that I have seen first hand the sacrifices parents of athletes make, I think they too deserve an award.
It's been a wonderful 4 years, and I'm really going to miss watching this talented young woman play.
