They say "All good things must come to an end". Here is some Show and Tell from our last day in Park City.

Judi made this one as a gift. We have made several of these aprons together and I think her fabric choice is my favorite one so far.

Ruth made two Cupcake Totes for her grand daughters. It was her first time to use Texture Magic and she liked it!

And she got a start on putting her quilt blocks together.

And finished an Advent calendar as a Christmas present for one of her daughters.

Ruth loves working with wool. She even hand dyed some of these pieces to get just the right look with each block.

Thank you ladies for such a wonderful week! It went by too fast!

Park City Pleasantries

A week in Park City. Time to sew and be with best girlfriends. It doesn't get much better than this.

One morning we did a photo shoot with Judi. She wanted a new picture for her blog photo. Ruth and I got out our camera's and shot away. I took this one, and I think she looks so pretty!

We've been busy at our machines. Judi brought projects to finish.

Mission accomplished.

We've been best girlfriends for years and years. We were trying to add up, and we think we have done this annual get-away together for around 13 years now.

Ruth worked on piles of blocks from her scraps.

I brought supplies so the ladies could try Texture Magic on the cupcake tote.

This is Beth's tote.

Bethie also made a scissor holder. She Texture Magic-ed a 9" square and then cut out a 6" circle. She added binding to the edges, folded and added a covered button for the closure.

Beth also finished this yellow quilt.

And finished the inside of Everyday Dishes (by Piece O Cake).

We all started this quilt together a few years ago, and I've taught this as a class.

Today we took a break and went to the open air farmers market right at the base of the ski slopes.

In the winter this place covered in snow and filled with skiers.

There were many artisans selling their wares.

This man was making beautiful Tongan wood carvings.

To add to the interesting people, these guys who ran this booth took me back to the 1960's where I was raised near San Francisco. Anybody remember Haight Ashbury? Groovy man.

One daughter is a graduate of the University of Utah, and another will graduate in December. Do you think I should get them one of these tye dyed shirts for Christmas?

The real reason we came to the farmers market was to load up on delicious Utah produce.

Mr. Cactus has been doing such a good job holding down the fort this week, that I thought he would be happy to know I'm bringing back fresh Utah corn, Brigham City peaches and freshly baked artisan bread from Volkers.

Little Cupcake Tote with Texture Magic

I am always looking for new ways to use Texture Magic. I see so many possibilities in just about every pattern I look at. I think "That's a great pattern, but it would be even better with a little Texture Magic added here or there."

Such is the case with making the Little Cupcake Tote by Quilts Illustrated.

This pattern only requires 3 fat quarters.

For the cupcake top, I stippled the Texture Magic to the back of the purple fabric.

* For a conversion chart for Texture Magic, you can down load a version on Superior Threads Web site HERE. I used a 10" X 14" piece of TM and fabric to start out with. This gave me enough to allow for shrinkage for the 2 frosting tops.

This looks almost good enough to lick.

The tote works up very quickly and would be a nice Christmas present.

I think a little girl would love to have this little tote for carrying her favorite things.

Baby Blessing Dress with Texture Magic

I just finished making a baby blessing dress with Texture Magic, and I'm so pleased with how it turned out.
We have our first grand daughter due in November and I wanted to make an heirloom dress for this sweet little girl who will soon be joining our family.

I haven't sewn a dress in at least 20 years and I was a little apprehensive about making this one.
I picked a very basic pattern, McCalls M4865 with a simple yoke and sleeve.
It was so easy to construct this dress and it turned out looking like something out of an expensive boutique. I credit the result to Texture Magic that can make everything look like you've spent hours, when in reality, the process was fast.

I put Texture Magic on the yoke of the dress. Doesn't it look like I spent hours smocking?

I stitched the Texture Magic to the back of a piece of silk with 1/4" grids, and then applied steam.

Within seconds the fabric began to shrink, giving it that wonderful textured look.

I then cut out the yoke pieces,

and hand stitched some white beads in the folds.

I also used Texture Magic on the sleeve bands to add some pretty.

I made this dress in one day. It was that easy.

Feeling Spoiled

I'm feeling very spoiled. Very, very spoiled.
Every year in the fall I go on a girl-get away with 3 of my very best friends. It's a week of heaven.
This year we are staying in Park City, Utah.

We woke up this morning to this. The sky was full of hot air balloons.
Park City is a mountain resort town, most famous for it's ski resorts. The 2002 Winter Olympics were held in this area.

Park City is also known for the Sundance Film Festival, hosted by Robert Redford. Sundance is the largest independent film festival in the United States, and every January this small town is completely transformed with crowds of film goers and many celebrities.

While we are here, we are enjoying the luxury of spending as much time as we want at our sewing machines. No phones or any obligations.
We talk, watch movies, and the ladies fix wonderful meals. Add in quilting and it just doesn't get much better!
Beth brought a lot of unfinished projects. Today she completed "Ramblin Rose", a block of the month design by Marti Michell.

Judi finished the binding on a baby quilt for a friend.

The fall colors on the mountainside are spectacular.
We take long walks in the afternoon, and enjoy all the beauties of nature.

The clouds rolled in this evening as the sun was going down. Thunder and lightning filled the sky, and we are now hearing the pitter patter of gentle rain.

Time to call it a night.
