Row Along/ Row 5

 I am so happy :)
I have now caught up with all of the rows that have been revealed so far with
Bee In My Bonnet's
Row 5 is a filler row of
Flying Geese
A total of 48 bright little flying geese
all stitched together,
 looking all ready to fly
South for the winter.
Lori offers a great tutorial on the
"Fast Flying Geese Method".
I had never tried this method before, and it was fun
to learn a new technique.
Lori used an Omnigrid Clear Marking Ruler to mark 1/4-inch lines
away from the center of the block.
Because I don't have the ruler, I improvised and used my
 Frixion pen.
After I stitched, the lines disappeared with the touch of an iron.
* if you want to see a little more about the pen
see Sept 3rd post

With Row 5 sitting next to the previous 4 rows, the quilt is really starting to take shape.
Lori announced we have some fun rows to look forward to:
flowers, spools, fall leaves, mugs, and  baskets
are coming next!
(along with some filler rows)
A new row will be revealed every 2 weeks.
It's never too late to join in on

Time Out For Women

As I've mentioned previously, I work for a wonderful bookstore Deseret Book.
The last few days I have been involved in the most amazing convention called
Originally started as one event right here in Phoenix just 10 years ago,
TOFW now reaches women all over the world.
TOFW was created as an Inspirational event for women, with presentations from respected authors and musical artists.
This years theme was
 Seek The Good
The Good You Can Do
All the Good You Can Create
The Good Life Waiting For You
Held at the Phoenix Convention Center, tickets were sold out within a few weeks.
Over 4,100 women sat side by side in one room, coming together to be recharged and uplifted.
This 2 day event has become a tradition for many families, often joining grandmothers, mothers, daughters and sisters.
Many stay at the nearby hotels, making the weekend a girl getaway.
Most come looking for encouragement to face the challenges and difficulties we all face in life.
To the side of the convention stage, we set up our bookstore, including many of the books and CD's from the presenters.
This was my first time to attend a TOFW and I didn't know what to expect.
Women began gathering at the doors hours before the scheduled opening.
Once the doors were opened, ladies began joyfully running towards the front stage in order to obtain the best seats.
That little pink spot you see in the middle of the picture is actually a very large stage.
Giant TV screens were set up through out the convention hall so all could see and hear clearly.
We waited as booksellers, as the crowds descended.
Many save their $$ for this event, and we had long lines in between every break.
At the beginning we heard a taped message from Sherri Dew, President of Deseret Book
Then on to the line up of presenters.
One of my favorite
played the piano and sang Friday night.
Michael introduced his well known Forgotten Carols right here in Phoenix for the first time many years ago.
We also were treated to some really great performances on Saturday by
A contempory Christian musical group
There were many inspriational and well known speakers through out the two days.
Too many for me to showcase.
Probably the most moving for me was a powerful talk by
Chris Williams
who's wife, and 2 children were killed by a drunk driver.
Chris has written the book
A True story of Tragedy and Forgiveness
Through his faith, Chris was not only able to go into complete forgiveness towards the teenager who caused the accident, he also has been very instrumental in helping this young man and his family move forward and heal.
A book I would highly recommed reading
and can be found online at deseretbook.com

Row Along/ Row 4

 Bee In My Bonnet's
is getting more fun by the day!
Once I saw the
I knew I had to pull out my fabrics
and start matching up ideas!
 from crunchy Pink Ladies
to yellowy Golden Delicious....
 and bright green Granny Smith
I was excited to make them all.
But, I have to admit, seeing the apple cores caught my eye the most.
Is this not the cutest design?
Again, my backgrounds are very scrappy, and each row has a different look.
As a heads up:
In Lori's tutorials, she has mentioned that the order that we make the rows will not be the same order sewn.
For now, the rows are all hanging out on the pool table, looking more and more like a quilt each day.

Row Along/ Row 3

 Chubby Chevrons
Even the name is cute.
Humming along here, and I've now completed Row 3 with
Bee In My Bonnet's
12 little Chubby Chevrons all sewn, being zig zaggy and Chubby together :)
Looking good sitting next to Row 1 and Row 2
You may have noticed that my backgrounds for each row will be scrappy too.
I'm on a mission to use what I have, and every piece of this quilt is coming from my stash.
It's never too late to join in on Lori's Row Along.

Row Along #2 Butterflies

I've been putting foot pedal to the metal, while my sewing machine accelerates to top speeds this week.
I've got some catching up to do as I've joined in late to the
Bee In My Bonnet
Row Along
Row 2  Butterflies are so pea pickin' cute that I could hardly wait to get started!
Lori's tutorial shows all of the background fabrics as white, but this is going to be a truly scrappy quilt for me.
Each background will be a different color
11 fun little butterflies are now playing happily together.
And they especially look nice sitting next to Row 1
It's never too late to join in on the Row Along
(like me)
Wonderful tutorials available over on
Row #2 reminds me of Butterflies Are Free, a scrappy quilt I made in July 2010
The block is different, and yet the overall look is somewhat the same.
One can never have too many butterflies.
