Dixie Quilt Guild September Meeting

The Dixie Quilt Guild doesn't meet in the summer, except for a Pot Luck Social. Because of the Southern Utah heat, many people travel. September starts our new year and today was our first meeting conducted by our new president Pat Peters.

We usually have around 200 members in our guild.

A lot of volunteer work goes on by the amazing board. Today they presented to us so many fun things to do this coming year.

After all the business was conducted, we had a show and tell.

Because of guild is so large, we break down into friendship groups. Right now we have 14 active friendship groups. Some meet weekly. Some meet only once a month. This group of 4 women call themselves "The Cool Chicks".

This summer at one of their meetings they made matching name tags. How cute are these!

Donna added real chicken feathers to her name tag.

This was entered in the Hurricane Peach Days Festival

Look at the beautiful machine quilting.

We had a lot of new people who came and joined our guild today. This lady said this was an original she designed.
Margaret finished another one!

Another Grandmothers Flower Garden. I love those!

Here in St. George we have a quilt celebrity. Marilyn Badger is a Nationally known quilter, especially awarded for her long arm work. She has been a guest on the Fons and Porter t.v. show for the last 12 years. She will be filming another episode this month and brought quilts to share that will be on the show. If you would like to see the episode, Marilyn said it will probably air in around December or January. You can also go to the Fons and Porter web site, and sign up for QNN t.v. . She said this site shows most of the quilting shows out there.

Below are some of the quilts Marilyn will talk about on the show. Most are from other artists who use many of the fabulous thread techniques.

This picture didn't turn out very well from a distance. The designer is from Japan and she snipped little pieces of fabric and then machine quilted over the top. Up close it was unbelievable.
Marilyn machine quilted this one and described the use of pencils to color the horse.
This one is Marilyn's and has been entered in a competition (but I can't remember which one she said). I know she does a lot of work with Claudia Meyers and they win at a National and International level. Again I wish I had a close up of this one to show you the detailed work. Maybe this is enough to whet your appetite and watch the show on Fons and Porter. I'm sure their camera's will do better justice to these artists work.

Well how lovely is all that! Your guild is so amazing. Marilyn's quilts are lovely. I've seen her on that show before. I had a question for you. On the citrus quilt of Marilyn's what is on the top above the leaves? I can't figure it out. I love the colors and the movement of the vines growing up.
