Boxed In 9 Patch Quilt with Radiant Orchid

 Did you know that the
world's
color authority
has declared
Radiant Orchid
the Pantone Color of 2014?
Quilt maker Pat Grago
must have sensed the latest trend
as she brought together scraps
to make
Boxed In 9-Patch
A 9 Patch surrounded by Half Square Triangles
and then set On Point
with
Appliqued vines
I am just learning that there
REALLY IS an official
"World Color Authority"
and not just some funky title flying around out there.
Pantone, LLC ,which has been in existence since 1968,
is a global authority on color
and a
provider of professional color standards
for Design Industries.
"Twice a year the company hosts, in a European capital, a secret meeting of representatives from various nations' color standards groups. After two days of presentations and debate, they choose a color for the following year." (Wikipedia)
Secret meetings in European Capitals?
I think I've seen a few movies start out like that.
Who would guess Purple  would provide such intrigue?
I wonder how a person applies for such a job?
I'd be happy to go to Europe twice a year
and secretly talk about color.
Until then, I will try to be content
by including a little
Radiant Orchid
in my quilts this year.
If you would like to make a
Boxed In 9 Patch
Pat is teaching this quilt as a class
on Saturday February 22nd
from 9:30-3:30

Hex N More Ruler

While I was sewing
 on Tuesday's
Open Sew Day
carloads of quilters from
Sun City, Arizona stopped in.
As part of their Shop Hop
Ray Steeves
presented a demonstration using the
by Julie Herman of Jaybird Quilts
With the Hex N More
 you can cut
4 Shapes in 4 Sizes
 You can make
2" - 4"
Half Hexi's
 Hexagons
 3" - 12" Jewels shapes
and even
60 degree triangles
I really liked the look
that was created
when Ray fussy cut the jewel sections.
It makes you look at fabric with a new eye.
There are several patterns that can be made
using the Hex N More Ruler
Jawbreaker Pillow
can be taken as a class at
3 Dudes on March 13th

Carrie Nelson's Bees Knees Blocks

Have you seen the fun You Tube Video

This month for our Bees Knees group
Carrie Nelson asked each of us make
2 blocks from Camille's video.
I was given the layout for
Block #5
 and Block #6
It's so nice to have Carrie
as part of our group
Carrie is also a fellow Arizonian
 Carrie's package included
the sample layout
and a charm pack containing
5" X 5" squares of Moda Bella white
and  Flea Market Fancy

Carrie's blocks will be sent off in the mail today.
Now I'd like to make all 25 in the layout :)

Moonflower Fabric

 I rarely buy fabric anymore.
With so much in my stash, I have been on a mission
to use what I have.
But every once in a while,
I succumb to the temptation
and just have to have a piece
of a new beautiful line.
The yellow and gray cross medallions of
by Denise Urban for Quilting Treasures
came home in my bag.
I would have loved to have a  cut of every single piece
in this line
currently available at
or if you live here in Arizona
can also be found at
I've been collecting grays for a future project
and also picked up a piece
of gray and white chevrons
from the latest Deb Strain line
