Eat Cake

Our little retreat grew in numbers, so I arranged to move the party yesterday from my house over to Quilted Works (our LQS).

What a lovely group of ladies!
In addition to Rae Ann, Lori and Nanette: Nanette brought her sisters Michelle and Paula. Sherri and Dawn joined us from Logandale, Nevada.
And we had a very nice visit from Glenna (more about that later).

Quilted Works was so nice to let us come and use their classroom. We set up our machines and spent the day sewing away.

It felt like a day of celebrity gatherings.
As Lori's friends we asked if she would be willing to give us an applique lesson on her a recent pattern release "Eat Cake". We try not to take advantage, but we had Lori (Bee In My Bonnet) sitting right next to us! And of course she was very gracious to spend her time teaching us rather than working on her own projects.
Isn't this the cutest pattern?
Lori even gave everyone a vintage fork that her husband had prepared by drilling holes at the top.

Nanette (Freda's Hive) is very close to her sisters who live in this area. Coming to Southern Utah is like a mini family reunion for her.

Nanette's sisters Michelle and Paula
Sherri (A Quilting Life) also teaches classes at Quilted Works. You might also know her as the leader of the online Schnibbles Club.
It was so fun to see Dawn! (Piece And Love) She has had such a busy life this last year with many family and church commitments. I have really missed her!

Cute Rae Ann (Cutie Pinwheel) was taking pictures of me as I was taking pictures of her.

Lori is such a great teacher.
She has her own applique method that she has developed. I've taken a lot of different classes on applique, and Lori technique simplified and made needleturn look so doable.
I'm so excited to get back into applique now!
Lori pins all of her work on a foam core board that has been covered in batting. This allows her to set things in place as she lays out her pieces.
Lori says her patterns are written like a novel. You will find such complete instructions walking you through each step along the way.
To see more of Lori's patterns make sure to see her blog.
The nice ladies of Quilted Works were so accommodating. Thank you ladies for making us feel so welcome.

What a great store!

Rae Ann and Glenna Hailey (Hollyhock Quilts)
Nanette has many blogging friends. She communicates quite often with Glenna who lives in Tulsa, Oklahoma. As they chatted on line they both discovered they would be in St. George on the very same day. Of course they wanted to meet each other!
How fun to have the famous Glenna join our little group. What a bright spirit!

Glenna showed us her newest pattern design. She is most known for collecting and selling feed sacks and vintage. You may be familiar with her book Sugar Sack Quilts.

What a fun day we had! Thank you to each and every one for coming and making our day so memorable.
