Dixie Quilt Guild's Challenge Quilt

I wrote a few days ago about the upcoming April 2009 Dixie Quilt Guild Show. On Saturday the Guild presented the fabric for the Challenge Quilt Contest. We were given a fat quarter and asked to come up with a quilt incorporating this fabric. I am not a "pink" person. When I think of pink, I think of "pink, pink, you stink". OK-- I know I should not be prejudice with colors, but this fabric is just not me! Then Ricci, who was sitting next to me, suggested oh so softly that maybe I ought to be thinking less of myself and more about the guild. (She can get away with teasing me). Our good friend Jan K is in charge of the Challenge Quilt Contest, and we need to support her! (She's right). When Jan presented her part of the program, she said that part of the challenge this year is to be able to work with this fabric! A lot of laughter burst from the group, so maybe I'm not alone in my fretting.

Today I pulled out all my quilt books and perused the fat quarter friendly ones. Nothing wonderful was coming to me. I took a break to check my e-mail and saw a message about the 2009 International Quilt Festival in Long Beach. www.quilts.com
They use this quilt by Leana Powel Ada of Texas C.1920 in their header. Hmm.. I sometimes like the pink in vintage quilts. I could do that.

Now to find a pattern to make a "Stringed Pieced Lone Star". I looked things up on the Internet and didn't find anything. Does anyone out there have a pattern, or know of a book that would help me? I would appreciate any suggestions!

I actually love the pink! I think it would look fabulous with some Kaffes:) Think about it :)!!! As Tim Gunn would say, "Make it work"! You can do it!

Oh I've not really got a suggestion but I'll bet you get one. I love string quilts though. And I do like pink! This is a fun thing. I can't wait to see what you come up with.
