Old, Well Loved Quilts

 Under the heading
Old, Well Loved Quilts
at the
Art of Quilting Show
was
Scalloped
by Bead Parker
from Electra, Texas
C. 1950
If you look closely at the bottom of this picture,
you will see a lovely scalloped border
nicely finished with a yellow binding.
My eye was especially drawn to this quilt block
sometimes known as
Whirligig
or
Kansas Twister
 A 60-degree ruler or template
is needed to cut out the sections for the block.
The outer edge
forms a hexagon shape.
I liked Bead Parker's use of
 yellow triangles
 that helped set
the Whirligig's and make them pop.
Right now Lee at Freshly Pieced
is hosting a Quilt Along
where the block is somewhat similar
and yet a uniquely different.
Complete with free tutorials
the Quilt Along runs from
March 28- May 2nd.

I love these old quilt patterns. It is great how we can make them too and lots of times someone has thought of a better way.
