Wasatch Shop Hop Day 1

A few weeks ago my girlfriend Judi asked me if I could join her for the Wasatch Shop Hop. We love to quilt together. We love to shop together. So it's only natural that we love to shop at quilt stores together too!
Judi
I drove in yesterday and will be spending the next few days staying at Judi's house. After a day of shopping today, we also hope to get a start on a few projects.
Our girlfriend Beth joined us also.
Our first stop was at Thimbles and Threads in Draper, Utah.
The Theme of the Shop Hop this year is "All Around The Town". Each quilt store had a "store" they represented, and each designed a unique quilt block.
Refreshments are served and there were some terrific sales.
Thimbles was the General Store. I loved this setting they used to put all the blocks together.
A Halloween quilt on display.
Look at the 3-D spiders.
Our next stop was Material Girls.
They are part of another Shop Hop going on in the Salt Lake area at the same time.
We went because I couldn't come into town and not go to Material Girls. It's one of my most favorite quilt stores.
Nadine is the owner. She is so friendly and does such an amazing job with display.
I didn't take very many pictures because I was so busy looking at all the wonderful products.
I must have been in a Halloween mood today because I noticed that I took a lot of pictures of Halloween quilts.
And Halloween hats.
Our next stop was Pine Needles. They were The Train Station.
Beth and Judi shopping away.
It was so crowded I didn't get very many pictures, but they had a lot of wonderful quilts.

These were felted pin cushions that are glued to a stick. The stick is then inserted into the top of a spool of thread.
Our next stop was Quilts, Etc. They were The Bakery.
Pat had all the staff wearing Bakers Hats.
For refreshments they served wonderful breads from Great Harvest.
The store was filled with many different kinds of bakery items made with fabric.

This is how Quilts, Etc. put their store blocks together into a quilt.

While I was at Quilts I met up with Kim of Bitty Bits and Pieces! We read each others blogs every day and comment and e-mail back and forth often. This blogging world has introduced me to the most wonderful people! I want to make everything Kim makes as I look at her projects.
Our next stop was Mormon Handicraft. The checkout line was so long we didn't buy anything.
They were the Candy Store Block.
I did take a picture of one of their quilts on display.

Elaine's Quilt Store was the "Cottonwood Movie Theatre". They had tables decorated with this cute movie theatre fabric and fabrics packs in popcorn cups.
Movie posters everywhere. They even had movies playing upstairs and handed out popcorn.
This was Elaine's "All Around The Town" quilt.

By 2:00 we were ready for lunch.
Judi, Jackie, me, Kim, Beth.
See? Another Halloween Quilt. Aren't we still in the month of June?
Our next stop was Whimsey Cottage or The Police Station.
I just loved them all!
Kim brought this over to me and said "Look Nedra, a covered button!" I think I have her obsessing too.
Look at the cute way Whimsey Cottage put their blocks together.

They even had the police stamping our Shop Hop tickets.
Our last stop for today was Pipers/ The Pet Shop
So many of you are crocheting Granny squares right now. I thought this scarf was a great way to use them in a setting.

While I was at Pipers a woman came up to me and asked "Are you Nedra of Cactus Needle?"
I said "Yes".
She replied "I'm Karen of Karens Kraft Korner"!
Kim and I were so happy to meet a fellow quilt blogger.
What a wonderful day this has been.

I am so happy that you got to hook up with Kim and the other blogger. What fun to put a face with a name. I live up in Northern Utah so the only shop hop I'm taking in this year is Red Rooster. The shop was cute and a lot of fun. Enjoy your hopping.

I can hardly wait to get down there tomorrow! Thanks for lots of pics----love the theme quilts! I just might have to try to get to all the stores now to get the patterns. I'm surprised you weren't all wearing rain coats. Did SLC not get all the rain we got today? It rained hard all day here.

So much fun! I wish I were there! And how fun that you ran into Kim as well! One year I was up there at shop hop time just by coincidence...maybe next year I'll be able to plan to be up there! Love all the shops and quilts! Did you get to half today...or less?

I read your blog every day. Thank you so much for taking me down memory lane. I lived by Material Girls, also my favorite shop. I moved to Florida 5 months ago and can't find a quilt shop like hers. I still have more to discover, so I'm hoping....I enjoyed your post in Arizona with your grandkids. It made me feel a little better that not everyone lives around the corner from their grandchildren. Thanks so much for sharing. I also lived in St. George for a year.

I read your blog almost every day. I was checking out Quilted Works (which is co-owned by my DIL's sister), when I stumbled on to you. I am amazed at the "quilt world" out there. I hope you don't mind my blog stalking. I love to see what you and your friends are doing. One of these days...I hope to have time to do more. Although I do quilt and love doing it, I don't get to spend as much time at it as I'd like. I was really interested in the "shop hop". What is it and how often?

I love Karen! That is so funny you met her. She's a doll. Loved seeing everything and I could hear your voice talking about them in my head. Isn't that fun that when I read what you write I hear you too. I'm getting weepy again. hahahaha What a special day. That trip around town and Broadbents quilt neighborhood are my favorites. Sigh. Yes. Each day brings a new reason to quilt. I have the best friends and best hobby in the whole world.

I hopped over here from Kim and Nanette's blogs! You're so lucky to have so many great quilt shops in your area! Thanks for all the great pics -- I feel like I was there and now I can't wait to be there in a month!

Hi girlfriend,
Loved seeing us at shop hop, your pictures turned out great.

Y'know, somehow I have never managed to stop by more than one store during Shop Hop week -- even though I shop at several of them on a fairly regular basis! Appalling, I know. LOL! So if by any chance you want to add another buddy to your Shop Hop Tour for 2010... please definitely keep me in mind! :-)

Thanks for sharing such great photos, N!
