Stash Busters

One of my goals for 2008 was to start using up my stash of quilt fabric. I barely made a dent. I figure at the pace I'm going, I will get to keep the same goal for many a year to come. But it's a worthy endeavor, so I keep looking for patterns that will serve my purpose.
The other day I found this pattern called "Mumbo Gumbo" by Pie In the Sky Quilts. The description says " This quilt is s0-ooo simple to make and you can use lots and lots of scraps". Right up my alley.

I received the pattern in the mail today, and the instructions are very easy. I can hardly wait to get started.
My Dixie Diva group wants to make this too. I'm looking forward to seeing how different it will look depending on the fabrics each person pulls. I'll keep you posted on our progress.

A few years ago I took a class from Ami Simms on String Quilts. This was such a fun quilt to make and another stash buster. Ami had several different ways to set the blocks. I chose "Indian Hatchet"

I took this class with several of my girl friends. I remember Judi's reaction most of all. She was so vocal in her enthusiasm with making this quilt that Ami really started teasing her. She kept telling Judi "Don't hold back. Tell us how you really feel!" There was a lot of laughter in the room that day. Ami was a great teacher and her class was a delight.
To this day, this is still Judi's most favorite quilt to make.

The block was relatively easy. We sewed strips of various sizes and then cut them into squares. On two ends of the block we sewed triangles. That was pretty much it, except for sewing the blocks together.
Do you have a Stash Buster quilt you have loved making? My stash is quite large and I could use any ideas you want to share.

I love the quilt, and right now would love to do what you are doing, but I am busy with a machine embroidered geisha quilt. Yours will be lovely though!

I have that Mumbo Gumbo pattern and also can't wait to use it. I love that quilt from Ami. It really looks great. A great stash buster quilt that I just made is called Fabulous by 4th and 6th designs. Love it!

I have Bouilabasse (can't spell that word) by Pie in the Sky. Have not used it yet but I love Mumbo Jumbo too. Love scrap quilts.

Pie in the Sky makes great scrap patterns...I've been working at using my stash and have moved 60+ yards out of it and haven't even made a dent. I'm going to keep at it!

Great Looking quilt. I love scappy ones the best because they shine like nothing else. Mumbo Gumbo looks like a fun quilt to make.

Nedra, you are so amazing. I love looking at your quilts. The church display ones were my favorites. But, then, I love all the new ones you posted too. Thanks for sharing.
