Day trip to Vegas

Yesterday my girlfriend Ricci and I made a day trip to Las Vegas. She has a son getting married, and she needed to find a dress for the wedding. We spent quite a few hours at one of Las Vegas' huge malls, but didn't find anything she liked.
Ricci is a very funny person, and it doesn't matter what we are doing because she makes me laugh and laugh.

We also wanted to visit a few of our favorite quilt stores.
Here is Ricci welcoming us all to "Christmas Goose". Las Vegas is a very large town and I was a little nervous in being able to find the locations we were looking for. Ricci has a GPS in her new car and it was so fun to play with it. She has named the voice "Thomas" and he would very loudly remind us several times the direction we should be moving . We started talking back to him, sometimes not very nicely. But we found our way to each destination, so we've decided we need to be more polite to Thomas.

Christmas Goose is a nice store with a very friendly staff.

I thought this pattern was quite original. The designer took an old screen door and decorated with Wool Flowers.

My favorite quilt in the store was a Dear Jane done in bright solids. Wow. I've never seen a Dear Jane like this one before.

I saw this retro dish towel, and bought the kit because I wanted the pattern.
Our next stop was "Nancy's"
I am really trying to not buy new fabric, but there was just too much temptation here.
I limited myself to 1/2 yard cuts.
The one on the right is from a line called "Feathered Friends" by Wendy Slotboom for In The Beginning fabics.
Some "X's and O's" to add into my someday Valentine quilt.
I don't know why this one called to me so much, but it just did. I think it is my favorite fabric that I purchased yesterday.
I just loved all the different fish. This is from a line called Mendocino by Heather Ross for Free Spirit. Westminister Fibers #HR08 Swim Class.
Before heading home we had to stop off at Trader Joe's. My oldest son works for Trader Joe's in Brooklyn, New York and I love their specialty foods. If you've never been to a Trader Joe's I would recommend checking out the nearest one to you. They specialize in gourmet foods with no artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives. Many of their products are environmentally friendly.

I picked up some things that we consider "treats" and rarely splurge on. Peach salsa, corn chili relish, Turkish dried figs, freeze dried mangos, and a wonderful trail mix.
Of course, Ricci and I had to break into some of our bags and snack while driving back to St. George.

Hi Nedra,

Thanks for the shopping trip. It was fun to follow along and enjoy the great quilt shops. Rae Ann talks about the Christmas Goose whenever she gets back from visiting Las Vegas. I loved the bright Dear Jane too along with the wool flowers.

Wow...Christmas Goose is probably the shop I visit most...and the Dear Jane quilt wasn't there the last time I was there...guess it's time for me to go fabric shopping!

Friends, fabric, food, and Thomas. What a perfect day. I LOVE Trader Joes and the times I've been to Vegas my dear husband has made a stop at Nancy's for me.

Funny, our GPS is named Karen and we do talk back to her too. But she gets us to where we want to go! Those shops look like the are gold mines of fabric. I love what you picked out. Don't we always say we don't need to have any more, but always seem to get more. Trader Joe's is a must if anyone hasn't been there yet!

Never heard of Trader Joes. I'll have to remember that. It sounds like you had so much fun together. Sad that Ricci didn't find a dress. That always happens when you really "need" one. I've been to the Christmas Goose. It really is a fun store. It has been years though, since I was there. My sister used to live fairly close to it. Looks like a great day.

I love all that fabric. I especially loved the big pears!

Nedra - I've decided that EVERYBODY names their GPS voice - ours is a woman and Barry & I named her Shirley, because she's so SURE about where she's directing us! LOL

What a fun getaway day. I laughed at you talking back to the GPS. I'll have to visit those fabric stores next time I'm in Vegas visiting family. I love Trader Joe's too!

I think if I were naming my GPS, I'd call her FAT HEAD! Oh I get so mad at that crazy voice and when I've done something wrong, I'm not smart enough to fix it or get her to shut up, so she yabbers and yabbers at me and I am always so frustrated. I actually can't stand the thing, but my husband keeps telling me to try again it's not that difficult. Just me I guess. I had such fond memories of our last trip to Vegas with 'the ladies' and I want to go back soon! Hugs
