Fun and Done Baby Quilt

Next month I am teaching some classes at a quilt retreat near Bryce, Utah. One of the techniques I will be teaching is called "Fun and Done". These patterns by Prairie Sky Quilting offer an easy quilt-as-you-go style. I love it because as you assemble the blocks, the quilt is done, complete with binding.
I've made several of their patterns, and today started a new design called "Blooming Blossoms". I want to be able to do a trunk show for those taking my classes so they can see all the wonderful options available.
One of my 2009 goals is to make some baby quilts in advance so I can have a stack available when I go to a baby shower.
I found these beautiful soft prints that matched even though they are by different designers like Amy Butler and Heather Bailey.

The pattern shows 3 sizes: Crib, Lap and twin. I will be making the crib.

Everything is cut out, so I can get started on the sewing tomorrow. I'm hoping this works up quick.

The foundation for each block is a 7 1/2" X 7 1/2 " piece of batting. The most crucial part of cutting for this quilt is that the batting is exact in size.
I love starting a new quilt and seeing how the fabric combinations end up going together. Sometimes I can visualize in my mind how things will turn out, and sometimes the overall effect is a surprise. These Fun and Done quilts are a little bit like putting together a jig saw puzzle. Each block is identical, and by putting several together a pattern begins to emerge.
I'll keep you posted how this one turns out.

I love the fabric you are using for this! Cute baby quilt...maybe I'll have to have another baby soon! J/K OH, and Noah is not walking quite yet. He stands on his own for long periods of time, so I've been trying to get him to step towards me, and he loves walking with his walker toy. I'll let you know!

I want to do the same thing with the baby quilts. Just have several on hand waiting to be given. It should also be a good use of scraps! I can't wait to see your finished product.

very pretty, may i ask why you have to cut the batting down to the block size, and not bat the whole quilt when it is done? I am just curious as I had never seen it done like this unless the pieces are lifted off the quilt.

Thanks!
