April Showers Bring May Flowers

In the desert April showers also bring April flowers. The Argentine Saguaro Cactus in our front yard is in bloom.
The tallest part of this plant is only 25 inches high, and yet the flowers measure around 8 inches across. The flowers close up quite a bit during the day, and then come out more fully at night. I took this shot under a moon lit sky.
The luscious white flowers look stunning for a day or two, and then start to fade.
We have counted over 60 buds. Once the first batch drops, another grouping will emerge.
This side view shows newly formed buds that will appear as flowers in the next few days.
I have neighbors and cars who stop by and ask to photograph our cactus. I tell them to be quick. We only experience flowers for a week or so, and then they are gone until the following spring.

The flowers look like big fancy owl eyes. I grew up in the desert in Souther CA and the desert has it's own unique beauty.

How did I not know that cacti could produce such gorgeous flowers (or any flowers at all)?
