The Afternoon That Went Too Fast

Have you ever wanted to slow time down? Today I had an afternoon that went too fast!
Nanette (of Freda's Hive), Dawn (Piece & Love) and Sherri (A Quilting Life) all came into St.George and we shared a wonderful afternoon together. We have met through quilt blogs, and talk to each other often, but wanted a day to be together in person. We met in February at the Bryce Retreat, and decided next time Nanette came to St. George we needed some girlfriend time. Both Dawn and Sherri live in Logandale, Nevada about an hour south of my house.
I fixed a lunch so we could have plenty of time to visit without interruption.

I even made homemade salsa.
Nanette brought us all presents. She loves this Caldrea Countertop Cleanser, and made cute dishtowels to go with it.
She gave me this cute little Japanese bag kit as a birthday present. Thank you Nanette! I love it! The instructions are in Japanese so I'm not sure how to make it. My boss Heather Purcell lived in Japan for 10 years and I may have to drop by her house to have her help me.
We all have made Nanette's bag. This one is Sherri's.
Instead of long strips, Sherri combined fabrics in a patchwork design.
Even her handle is scrappy.
Dawn's bag is more pastel in pink and blue.

Sherri gave me this little bag as a gift. Nanette thought it would make a great camera bag.
Thank you Sherri!
After lunch we went into my sewing room and talked quilts.
Sherri had just inherited some antique Dresden Plates from a Great Grandmother.
Sherri also brought her latest show and tell. Look at all the work! Each block is so well done.

We asked Nanette a lot of questions. We wanted to know where she gets her inspiration to design. She brought a lot of her Japanese books for us to look at. Even though she doesn't speak Japanese, she can understand enough by looking at the pictures.
Nanette gets most of her books on line, and over the years has built quite a collection.

We also went to a few quilt stores together. I especially wanted to shop with these ladies to see what they pick out. Have you ever notice that you go into a store and only see your view? And then your friends pull out wonderful things that completely passed you by? I followed Nanette around like a little groupie with my camera.
Nanette bought a yard of this fabric. She said "Look at the potential for wonderful covered buttons that could come from this."
I bought a yard too, because I believe her.
Our time went too fast. Mr. Hive met us at one of the quilt stores, and wanted his wife back. After all they are here on vacation and have plans with extended family.
I guess I'm just going to have to make a trip to Alpine, Utah in the near future because I still have a lot of things I want to learn.
Thank you Sherri, Dawn and Nanette for a memorable day!

When I saw Nanette on Wed. she mentioned that she was going to St. George, but she didn't say she was in for this much fun! I agree with the "button" fabric and, like you probably wouldn't have seen the potential unless someone else pointed it out to me. Maybe I should shop with friends more often. Thanks for sharing;)

Nedra! You are so gracious and give me way too much credit. Thank you so much for hosting our little party. I had a ball. It was something I'd been looking forward to since Bryce and it was so incredibly fun. I got back just a couple hours ago and it was such a fun little trip from beginning to end. I was sad to leave the warmth of St. George both from outside and from you and my sisters homes. We certainly WILL do this again. Next time my house!
