Main Street Quilt Cottage

A new quilt shop has opened in Southern Utah. I'm so excited! More fabric choices! "Main Street Cottage" is located in the sleepy town of Hurricane (population 8,500). If you are a local, the town is pronounced "Her-ah-kun" and is situated about 20 miles outside of Zion National Park. Fortunately for me, it's only about a 15 minute drive from St. George.

Main Street Quilt Cottage will have their open house next weekend- December 12th and 13th. The store is owned by 3 friends: Lynette Bingham, Wendy Lemmon and Sariah Mortensen.

Lynette Bingham is the daughter of Blanche Young, a local quilt celebrity. When I first moved here I kept hearing Blanche's name. She has published numerous books, does trunk shows, and is often the featured artist at quilt gatherings. Blanche is now 89, and has slowed down somewhat, but her daughters have continued to carry the torch in the quilting world.
One of Blanche's daughters, Helen Frost has published this book.
Lynette is in the process of making this design into a "Twilight" quilt. She will be featuring the books by Stephanie Meyers on the sides.

A fall version

Ricci just made this pattern out of purples, yellows and oranges.
We loved walking around the store and seeing some of the quilts on display. Lynette made this one for Hurricane's Peach Days. I especially loved the varigated colors in the border.

Louisa May Alcott books to highlight the fabric line.

How many women have said this before?
The borders on this Christmas quilt were done in wool. What a great idea!

Notions displayed on an old door.

Even their cash register caught my eye.

The ladies have kept the store consistent with the pioneer house feeling. Look at this wonderful antique stove in the front parlor.

I wish them all the luck in the world for a very successful business. I know I'll be coming back!

Thanks for the info. on the new shop...I came over to your blog from "Loft Creations." I live in the area as well...just 30 minutes south of Mesquite! So I'll have to head up to Hurricane one of these days!

What a cute shop. We get down your way a couple of times a year and I can't wait to go there. I laughed at the scissor quilt.

Nedra, what fun to have more quilt stores to choose from. When I was in St. George, the only quilt store I found was Daisy Cottage, which I loved. Love the make and take as well.
Merry Christmas!!

I can't wait to get down for a visit and see that shop together. I love it! When my mother in law turned 80, I made her that tumbling block quilt in many of the same colors. She still uses it on her bed (she's 86 now). Thanks for sharing. Hugs
