Arizona Quilters Guild Show

The Arizona Quilters Guild just hosted their 2011 Quilt Show in Mesa, Arizona.

This was my first time to attend their event.
Wow, was I impressed.
It was a much bigger show than I expected.
When I observed the bus loads of quilters from all over the region unloading in the parking lot, I knew I was in for a treat.
Over 400 quilts were hung in the show, along with great vendor booths. I was pleased to see two of the vendors (Let's Quilt and Lazy Daisy) came all the from St. George, Utah.

This really is a simple quilt, but it caught my eye. I loved Sharon's use of solids.
She wrote that this was a pattern by Country Threads, and that she used hand dyed Cherrywood Fabrics.

I really liked the simplicity of the quilting also.
The wavy lines really add movement to the quilt.

One of the things I love about quilt shows is seeing the diversity of creative expression.
In contrast, look at the busyness in this next quilt.

God's Greatest Gift (appliqued and quilted by Sally Morgan)
Sally wrote that she worked on this quilt as she was a caretaker for her Father In Law.
She could work on one animal at a time in small sections.
Another example of the healing art of quilting.

Which animal is your favorite?

I'm especially fond of peacocks. When I was a young girl I used to go to the cemetery with my grandfather to visit my grandmother's grave. The grounds were full of beautiful peacocks, and I always came home with a delicate feather that had been found upon the grass.
