Compassion Quilt

As we all know, quilts offer so much more than being just a "blanket". Quilts symbolize comfort and support. A quilt says "I love you" from maker to recipient.
Last week the bishop of our church congregation approached me with a special task. One of our beloved local church leaders is terminally ill and has taken a turn for the worst. The bishop knows that I am a quilter and asked if I could get a group together to make a quilt for President Nelson ASAP. I approached 4 friends and asked if they would help me put something together right away.
Last Sunday we had each member of our congregation sign their names to muslin block. I donated homespun's to be mixed in rows around the signature blocks.

Aren't quilters wonderful? The women that I know are always so generous with their time and talents. Everyone rearranged their schedules to meet at my house this morning to assemble the quilt.
Lucille donated all the muslin and helped gather the signatures so each member of our congregation was represented. She also helped with the sewing.
Patti helped with the design of the quilt and the sewing today. Tomorrow she is going to do the long arm stitching and binding of the quilt. The quilt will be ready to be ready to be delivered by tomorrow night.
Lucille and Patti.
Doris helped with the signature blocks and did all our ironing.
Ann helped with today with the sewing. With these angel women's contributions, we completed the top in just 3 hours.

I am always amazed at how willing people are to help in any way they can. I am a better person because of their great examples of kind service.
We honor President Nelson, and pray this quilt shows our love for a man and his sweet wife who have spent years serving us first.

What a touching kind deed you did along with these great women. The quilt will be a treasure for him through this terrible ordeal and provide comfort for his wife when the ordeal is complete. Great job.

I have been wanting to make a quilt like that - similar but different - for a while now. I have this idea in my head. This one is really nice. What a great idea to get together and produce something so lovely and important.
