For a person who would love to "do it all" in the quilting world, I've had to prioritize and set limits.
Then I saw Sarah Fielke's (The Last Piece) Pentagon Flowers, and was immediately taken in.
Don't you just LOVE how these scrappy flowers are set in black?
Years ago I made a Grandmother's Flower Garden using the same technique of English Paper Piecing. All sewn by hand, and a labor of love. I don't know how many hours I put into this queen sized quilt. Maybe several hundred? I really didn't think I would ever sign on for another quilt of the same magnitude.
But then I found myself ordering a few packages of paper pieces.
Justification: a great hand project to take along on summer road trips.
And another great way to use up scraps.
And another great way to use up scraps.
Come on over to my house. I can rationalize just about any quilt project.

I have to chuckle. I knit and crochet. I could take everything you have just written about justifying new projects and materials and just change the quilting words to yarn, needle, and hook words. We design people have more in common than is seen at first glance. ;)
Your work is beautiful. I have great admiration for the gorgeous quilts I see out here in blog land.

Wow! That Hexie Star quilt is worth all the justification you need to do to make it. Stunningly beautiful. I'm just getting started on cutting out some Hexies for a Grandmother's Flower Garden Quilt. I like how Sarah talked about the One Flower Wednesday Group. I'll have to look into joining that group once I get started on it.

Rationalization is a very important skill. So much better than excuses!! I have not done any hand sewing of hexagons or otherwise, but they sure are tempting. Have fun!

I need to get back to hexagoning. When I don't know. Love these quilts. Your work is always the best. I don't feel so bad now about missing Ruby's next year if you aren't going either. Yay!! I can not wait to see what yours will look like. I know it will be beautiful. When I started my grandmother's flower garden I had no illusions that it would take me forever. But I am doing it little by little. Remember, slow and steady wins the race!! You go girl!!

Love the Pentagon flowers and your gfg quilt, wow so beautiful!! I've been working on a gfg for about 10 yrs now and wonder if I'll ever finish. It's my traveling project, so maybe in time. I used the paper pieces as well.
I LOVE it! The black setting is spectacular! That is going to be one awesome quilt!
