Cooler/ Cooker Bag Class at QW

Yesterday I taught a class on the Cooler/ Cooker Bags at Quilted Works here in St. George, Utah.

Very wonderful group of ladies.
I had made a store sample of the bag out of this beautiful Amy Butler midweight Quilted Works carries in their store.
The sample was in preparation to teach classes this fall.
But some of these ladies are from out of town, and wanted to know if I could do a class this week.
I said I'd be happy to.
With such an easy project, I knew they would complete right away.
There are only two pieces to cut out.
Even a beginner can do the sewing.
Quilted Works has a nice classroom with plenty of room.
QW even provided the Pfaff sewing machines.
The next step was to come over to what I called the "bean station".
Notice the high tech funnel I made out of card stock? (Hey, it works!)
Here we partially filled the bags with polystyrean beads.

Does this make us Bean Counters?

The ladies finished their bags, cleaned up and were ready to shop the store in less than 2 hours.
Easy class, and they were so excited to be able to put these in the trunk of their cars for the next grocery store run.
Here in St. George with the high summer temperatures we need something to keep our food cold during the drive home from the store.
Great job ladies!
I will be teaching more classes in the fall. If you are interested, make sure to come in/or call Quilted Works to sign up.
*They will also be putting together kits.

Love this idea! And the bags are bigger than I thought they would be. I know you have said before but where do you get the beans to stuff the bags? Any pattern for those of us that can't get to St. George easily?

Happy to see you making the cooler/cooker bags. Those ladies couldn't have a better teacher! How fun!!!

My friend has one. I need to catch up with her and make me one.

I was told that someone brought three gallons of frozen milk to girls camp in hot July in one of these and it stayed frozen for 3 days. It was even left inside a car.

Love that bag. I teach bag classes at Dave's Bernina in St. George and the Corn Wagon in Springville. I think the ladies at the Corn Wagon would love these. Is this pattern your own or can I purchase the pattern somewhere. I would love to take your class in the fall in St. George, do you know the date? Hopefully it's a date when I am there teaching. Do you teach other bag classes as well. I have so many great projects if you ever need one. You can find them here on my blog itssewshannon.blogspot.com

Living in Australia, I wouldn't be able to make it to your class! Is there somewhere I can purchase the pattern from please? Sth Australia (where I live) is fazing out plastic shopping bags, and this would make a neat way of getting frozen goods home from the store, without using a 'bought' cooler bag. It would also make a great 'take along' meal holder. Great work. Hugs Naomi
