Millefiori

I love Millefiori. I don't know what it is about the designs that call to me so much, but I love anything made with the technique.

I saw this vase at a local garden shop the other day, and it was listed at a very affordable price.

Millefiori means "a thousand flowers" in Italian, and it is a type of Murano glass filled with floral designs.
The picture didn't show this part very well, but when held to the light you can see all the way through and the different colors send out sparkles.

The technique can also be applied to beads and clay used for jewelry and other items.

Look at those colors. It almost looks like candy.

Kaffe Fassett uses many different Millefiori patterns in his fabric. Another reason why I love Kaffe fabrics so much.
I made a quilt this last year out of Kaffe's. Many of my centers were Millefiori patterns.

The quilt pattern is called "Round About" by Heather Mulder Peterson.
Enjoy!

I love that vase Nedra, it's so pretty you don't even need to put anything in it! Your Kaffe quilt is beautiful, doesn't he do Milefiore well? xo

Wow--Love the vase and equally love the Kaffe quilt. I just love how Kaffe combines unusual colors and achieves that prolific rich color palate that he does so well. Great job.

Did I ever see this quilt? I don't remember it. It is lovely. So exactly like the millifloral you describe. The vase is amazing. I'd really not been exposed to this idea before. New to me. Don't you love seeing new and different things! What a great idea to bring that out in a quilt. Really amazing. I am going back to look at it again.
