International Quilt Festival - Part 2

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JUDI!!!!

I have a very dear friend, who I love very much, and today is her birthday. I have Judi to thank for introducing me to quilt blogging, and I'll never be the same again.

I made this table topper for her birthday and mailed it off to her.

The pineapple pattern is from Buggy Barn. I made 3 of them and then added some borders. I even machine quilted this project, which is normally not my thing, but since it's small I figured I would try.

INTERNATION QUILT FESTIVAL IN LONG BEACH -- PART 2

I saw this sign in a booth at the Vendors Mall and I think it does count, don't you? I didn't take any pictures in the Vendor Mall because they requested we not. They said we could take pictures in the many quilt show areas. Each section had a different theme. I noticed most of the quilts seemed to be Art Quilts, rather than traditional. I loved seeing how many people from countries around the world participated in sharing their amazing talent.

One of my goal for 2008 was to not buy new fabric, but to use what I have. I really tried to keep that in mind as I attended the International Quilt Festival. OK--it was harder than I thought! But I did keep myself fairly limited. In other words, I didn't go out whole hog, and spend a ton of money. Below are some of my purchases.

Most of the fabric I purchased will be going into samples for some of the classes I will be teaching this next year. Amazing how I can rationalize another fabric purchase!

I love Kaffe Fasset fabric and am always adding to my stash.

One lady at a vendor booth was selling these beautifully handmade reverse applique pieces at an amazing price. Her stitches were so tiny I needed magnified glasses to see the details. I will be framing them for my walls at home.

I spent an entire day walking my feet off, but I think I managed to see every vendor booth, and every quilt exhibit. (Some just a brief walk by) It was crowded, but I think that means that the Long Beach location was a success! I certainly thought so. I know I'll be coming back next year.
