I mentioned in my last post
that while I was in Utah
I had an opportunity to go to lunch with my friend
Lori Holt of Bee In My Bonnet
During our lunch she brought out her strike out's
of her newest fabric line
Flower Patch
that will be coming out in September.
With Lori's permission,
she said I could take pictures and share with you.
Lori's style is Vintage.
One of her famous quotes is
"I was Vintage Before Vintage Was Cool."
So true. She really has been the leader in this Industry.
Lori grew up on a farm, in what was once the small town of Herriman, Utah,
Her grandmother lived next door and
most of her aunts, uncles and cousins
lived close by.
The inspiration for
Flower Patch
came from the summer dresses her mother made for her
in the 1960's
adorned with big bold flowers.
Orange/ Yellow fabrics
were a popular color combination during that era.
These fabrics will soon decorate Lori's Master Bedroom
Currently she is painting the walls
in the same
mint green color
used in the background of this floral.
It's hard to pick a favorite
but if I were to pick a favorite
I would chose the Queen Bees
Love this fabric!
So perfect to go along with her "Bee In My Bonnet" name
Queen Bees with crowns
How cute is that!
Each design will be available in several color ways.
Lori said she added in a little brown
to represent the soil of a Flower patch garden
If you have seen pictures of Lori's house
you know she paints furniture and decorates her entire home
in these wonderful bold colors.
She explained that no one even offered
the color red in decor
when she was a young wife and mother.
She would slip-cover a chair or couch
in order to change out the colors of a room.
Her motto is:
Same furniture. Different color.
Lori said she has been redecorating rooms
since she was a young girl.
Coming from a family of 10 children
her parents did not have the money or time
to change out the furnishings.
With money earned from babysitting
and herding sheep
Lori's bedroom became her pallet of creativity.
"I remember the year I went through my
red/black phase." she laughed.
"I even had a black shag rug."
I, for one, am grateful for Lori's continued desire
to bring color to fabrics
Make sure to watch for the debut of
Flower Patch
coming from Riley Blake Designs
this Fall

love the fabrics - the brown with the wild flowers some with orange remind me of a pair of pants that my daughter had in the mid 70's - flower power pants we called them - we always remember those pants.
