Easter Table Runner Prototype

One of my 2010 New Year's goals was to step outside the box, and work on designing Texture Magic projects. I have never attempted designing before. I always like to follow other people's lead. But, I have an opportunity to work with Annie Unrein, and Heather Purcell (Mother Superior) and learn from the best.
And life is about learning and growing, so I've challenged myself to reach for new experiences.

This Easter Egg Table Runner is a prototype for what eventually turned into a pattern. I will show you the official Easter Egg Table Runner tomorrow.

I had the saying come to my mind, and worked up the runner from there.
"Easter Eggs of Pink and Blue...

...some for me, and some for You!"
The eggs were fun to work up in Texture Magic. Using different stitches and threads adds interest.
Mr. Cactus didn't think the shapes were oval enough. Annie used a great paper piecing method in her pattern that gives it more of an egg shape. (This is called a teaser: you will see her work on tomorrow's post).

I used one fabric per egg. Heather suggested using two fabrics and adding in ric rac. I agree, Heather's version is much better! (another little teaser).

I've learned a lot from this project, and have a little more confidence now to tackle other ideas.

A curved edge continues on with the Easter theme.

And random bits of Texture Magic in the border.
Annie has so much experience as a pattern designer, that she made her pattern much more uniform and easy to follow. Trust me, you are going to like it.
With Easter around the corner, try to think of ways to add a little bit of Texture Magic here and there in your projects.

Great project. One day I sat down to design and sat for a very long time and came up with absolutely nothing. I get my ideas when working off someone else's pattern. Good luck

It was really fun to work with you on the Easter Egg Table Runner. Your ideas really jump-started my creativity and it was fun to brainstorm with you.

Still hoping to get to the next season's offering soon!
