I have joined my first swap! I've read your blogs and followed the wonderful things you have been making for some time now. I always felt I didn't have time to add one more thing on my plate (or quilt stack).
But now I'm ready, and I'm excited to be part of something fun.
Jane of Jane's Fabrics and Quilts e-mailed me a few weeks ago and invited me to her Spooktacular Halloween Theme Block Swap 2009.
Jane of Jane's Fabrics and Quilts e-mailed me a few weeks ago and invited me to her Spooktacular Halloween Theme Block Swap 2009.
We were asked to make two different blocks. One is to be a 12 1/2" (unfinished) nine patch out of two Halloween Fabrics.
My second choice in fabrics is Halloween Dance by Teresa Kogus/ Marcus Fabrics.
There needs to be 12 matching blocks.
Jane has placed us in groups. I'm in group #3 with eleven other wonderful quilters, most of whom I don't know. This gives me an opportunity to get to know new quilt bloggers.
Our deadline isn't until the end of summer, but I was anxious to get going on mine.
Our second block was to be the "Theme" block. We each were to pick a "theme", and we could use any technique we wanted. As she placed us in groups, each individual used a different concept idea. I chose "Witches Shoes and Socks". Another in my group chose a Halloween House, etc.
I took my concept from a Halloween quilt I made from a Dana Brooks pattern (of Lazy Daisy Cottage) "Hocus Pocus" . I had to alter the block to fit my 12 1/2" size.
I can hardly wait to see what the other blocks look like in the swap.
Nanette of Freda's Hive is in my group and she did a post today showing hers HERE.
Thank you Jane for inviting me. I'm having fun already
I'm sorry I passed on this swap. Too much going on right now. Oh how I LOVE your witches shoes and socks. So cute.
ReplyDeleteI think I should have joined this swap too! I've made that Dana Brooks pattern as well...it was so much fun...perfect block for your swap!
ReplyDeleteThose blocks are just too fun! I know I'm going to regret not joining in on the fun especially after seeing your blocks and Nanette's. Oh well, we can only do so much.

ReplyDeleteWhat a fun quilt you are making. The fabrics are just perfect.
ReplyDeleteWhat fun. The blocks look terrifically spooky. Have fun with your swap!!
ReplyDeleteI know this sounds strange. But there are times I read blogs and I get tears in my eyes. You may not know, or you may know, I'm an extremely emotional person. I hate that about myself but it is true. I can hardly ever make it through church without a kleenex. I don't like people to know what I am feeling so it is a constant thing I fight. Anyway when I saw your darling blocks and witch feet I got tears, real ones. I can't wait to get your blocks and really, everyone else's too. There is something so sweet about having a quilt with blocks made from friends. It really is touching and your blocks and fabric are so so so darling! I worked on my cottages last night and they are really cute. I ordered some Japanese Halloween fabric and now I am not sure I can use it. I'll have to post about it. I suppose if it bothers me I should just throw it away but it is hard because there are cute things in the fabric, too. I guess it is that way with lots of things. I'll post it tomorrow. I am beating around the bush but I know you'll give me your real opinion and I respect that. It is really only fabric after all. Anyway, love your blocks! And I get to have some!!!!
ReplyDeleteI think I may scream, I love you fabric choice for you 9 patches and I love your witches shoes and socks!!!
